AUF KRÜCKEN DURCH ROM (POST PUNK, BERLIN/FRANKFURT/M.)

On crutches through Rome – the name says it all: it’s almost always about Rome, sometimes in a roundabout way, when some twisted dodge in the lyrics creates a connection to the Italian capital – or one of the other numerous Rome’s in God’s wide world. Inspired by the Velvet Underground, Tortoise, PJ Harvey and Trio, the music is sometimes solemn and full of sound or energetic and dynamic – somewhere between post-rock and post-punk or the best of both worlds.

    VIK WHISTLE (ELECTRONICA, CHICO USA)

Vik Whistle is a solo loop project I developed while residing in my Chico, California basement. Years of collaborating with local artists and bands eventually melted into a deafening solitary quiet that needed sorting through by understanding what vulnerability looked like solo-creating, an expedition that wasn’t at all desired previously. Through generous opportunities to play shows around town from the open-armed, incubatory Chico art/music community, sets consisting of sounds I had only made in the basement for play and catharsis previously were tested and improvised in public. The sounds of discovering my first synthesizer and discovering my singing voice through a rig developed over years of noisy guitar experimenting in bands like Pervert and Pat Hull were honed into vignettes revealing to be an amalgamation of those efforts; noisy, ambient, electronic and beat-influenced live loops with simple vocal melodies. Underpass is a live set performed underneath a highway overpass near my home consisting of these sounds.
